Your Testicles and You
Testicular Self-Exams
Give your balls a little love—because they’ve been showing up for you your whole life. 💖Testicular self-exams are a quick, easy way to notice changes early, and early noticing can mean simpler treatment and better outcomes. When you know what your testicles normally feel like, anything new or weird stands out like a glitter heel at a hiking convention.
What are you looking for? You’re getting familiar with the usual size, shape, and feel, while keeping an eye (or hand) out for things like new lumps, unusual firmness, swelling, tenderness, or anything that just feels off. In our large model, there are four different abnormalities shown that would be reasons to check in with a healthcare provider—because curiosity is good, but ignoring surprises is not.
How to do a testicular self-exam (aka a 60-second fondle with purpose):
Do it after a warm shower when everything is relaxed and hanging out.
Use both hands and gently roll each testicle between your fingers and thumbs.
Feel for smoothness, consistency, and any changes from your normal.
Remember: it’s normal for one to be a little bigger or hang lower than the other.
No panic, no pressure—just a regular check-in with your body. Know your balls. Your future self will thank you!
Now let's talk about systemic racism! Did you know that it is nearly impossible to find medical models, especially of genitals, in darker skin tones? The underlying message is that a white skin tone is the "normal" and anything else is extra and therefore not needed. The model on the right was the only one available in the darker brown. It was over twice as much and took 3 times as long to be delivered. Imagine if you only saw examples of people that didn't look like you? What conclusions would you draw?
